*こと座の神話は？
こと座はギリシャの琴の名人オルフェウスの琴を表しています。オルフェウスにはエウリディケという美しい妻がいましたが、毒蛇に噛まれて死んでしまいました。オルフェウスは冥界の王ハデスに妻を生き返らせて欲しいと泣きながら琴を奏でてお願いしました。心を動かされたハデスは特別に生き返らせることにしましたが、1つ条件を出しました。死後の世界から地上へ戻るまで後ろを振り返ってはいけないということ。しかし、オルフェウスは洞窟に差し込んだ光を見て、振り返ってしまったのです。エウリディケは死の世界に引き戻され、オルフェウスは悲しみで河に身を投げて死んでしまいました。この様子を見ていた大神ゼウスは琴を天に拾い上げ、星座にしたということです。
私は小学生の時にこの神話を知りましたが、 とても悲しい話で今も強く印象に残っています。
*What is the Myth of Lyra?
The constellation Lyra represents the lyre of Orpheus, a master musician in Greek mythology. Orpheus had a beautiful wife named Eurydice who died from a snake bite. Grieving deeply, Orpheus played his lyre and begged Hades, the god of the underworld, to bring her back to life. Moved by Orpheus's music, Hades agreed on one condition: Orpheus must not look back until they returned to the world of the living. However, as they neared the exit, Orpheus, seeing the light, looked back, causing Eurydice to be pulled back into the underworld. Overcome with sorrow, Orpheus later threw himself into a river and died. Zeus, witnessing this tragedy, placed Orpheus's lyre in the sky as a constellation.
I first learned about this myth in elementary school, and it left a deep and lasting impression on me due to its profound sadness.
