宇宙の距離は、身近な大きさにたとえるとイメージしやすくなります。もし地球を直径1cmのビー玉とすると、月はそこから約30cmの場所を回っています。一方、太陽は約110m先にあり、校庭の反対側ほどの距離です。さらに巨大な惑星・木星は、地球から約550m先、ビル数棟分も離れた場所にあります。同じ太陽系でも、惑星どうしの間には大きな隔たりがあります。この距離の広がりを知ると、宇宙がどれほど広大かが実感できます。
*How Far Apart Are the Sun, the Moon, the Earth, and Jupiter?
The vast distances in space become easier to imagine when we scale them down to familiar sizes. If we picture the Earth as a marble about 1 centimeter in diameter, the Moon would orbit at a distance of roughly 30 centimeters from it—about the length of a ruler. The Sun, however, would be much farther away, at a distance of about 110 meters, comparable to the far side of a school playground.
Going even farther, the giant planet Jupiter would be located around 550 meters from the Earth in this scale model, a distance equal to several large buildings placed end to end. Even within the same solar system, the spaces between planets are surprisingly vast.
By visualizing these distances, we can better appreciate just how enormous space truly is and how isolated each world is within the solar system.
