あなたはいくつ星座の名前を言えますか？今、星座は世界共通で88星座あります。古くは2世紀頃、ギリシャのプトレマイオスがそれまで伝わっていた星座を48星座に整理しました。これは今の私達の星座と殆ど同じものです。「プトレマイオスの48星座」は1500年程使われてきましたが、16世紀になると望遠鏡が発明され、暗い星も観測できるようになりました。大航海時代とも重なり、南半球にも行くようになると、天文学者たちが競うように新たな星座を作ってしまい、星座の数も100を超えるようになってしまいました。そこで、1928年に国際天文学連合で全天の星座を88星座に定めたのです。今の形になってからは、実はまだ100年も経っていないんですね。

Can you name a few? Currently, there are 88 constellations recognized worldwide. In ancient times, around the 2nd century, the Greek astronomer Ptolemy organized the constellations known up to that point into 48 constellations. These closely resemble the constellations we know today. "Ptolemy's 48 constellations" were used for about 1500 years.
However, in the 16th century, the invention of the telescope allowed astronomers to observe fainter stars. During the Age of Exploration, as voyages extended to the southern hemisphere, astronomers created new constellations in a competitive manner, resulting in over 100 constellations. To address this, the International Astronomical Union established the current 88 constellations in 1928. It's fascinating to think that this system has been in place for less than a century.
