ぎょしゃ座は鍛冶の神ウルカヌスとミネルバの間に生まれたエレクトニウスがモデルとして描かれています。 エレクトニウスは、生まれつき脚が悪かったので、４輪の馬車を発明し戦場を駆け抜け、その功績により王になりました。その武勇を天から見ていた大神ゼウスはエレクトニウスが馬車に乗って馬を操る姿を夜空に描いたと言われています。
*What is the Myth of Auriga?
The constellation Auriga is based on the story of Erichthonius, who was said to be the son of Vulcan, the god of smithing, and Minerva. Erichthonius was born with a disability affecting his legs, but he overcame this challenge by inventing the four-wheeled chariot, which allowed him to traverse the battlefield. His innovation and bravery earned him the title of king.
Impressed by Erichthonius’ skill and courage, Zeus, the chief god, immortalized him in the night sky. It is said that Zeus depicted Erichthonius riding his chariot and skillfully guiding his horses, making him a part of the heavens as the constellation Auriga.
