しし座の神話は、ギリシャ神話の英雄ヘラクレスの物語に由来しています。しし座のモデルとなったのは、「ネメアの獅子」と呼ばれる怪物です。この獅子は、どんな武器も通さない硬い皮膚を持ち、ネメアの森で人々を恐れさせていました。ヘラクレスは、この獅子を退治する任務を与えられます。彼は武器が効かないことを知り、素手で獅子を絞め殺すという力業で勝利しました神々はこの勇敢な戦いを称え、獅子を夜空の星座として残しました。それが、現在私たちが見る「しし座」です。
*What is the Myth of Leo?
The myth of the constellation Leo originates from the story of Heracles (Hercules) in Greek mythology. The figure that inspired Leo is the fearsome Nemean Lion, a monstrous beast said to have impenetrable skin that no weapon could pierce. This lion lived in the forest of Nemea and terrorized the local people. As one of his twelve labors, Heracles was tasked with slaying the lion. Realizing that weapons were useless, he resorted to using his immense strength and ultimately strangled the lion with his bare hands. Impressed by his bravery and strength, the gods honored Heracles by placing the lion among the stars. That is the constellation we know today as Leo.
